How to Stop Procrastinating Now

entrepeneurs tips Apr 10, 2018

Let’s face it, there are times when procrastination happens. Have you ever sat at your desk as an entrepreneur, full of good intentions, and then realise you’d rather faff on Facebook, scroll on Instagram or generally ‘lose time’ being busy doing nothing?

And you are not alone, there are many creative ways that people come up with reasons and ways of procrastinating:

They're too tired;
Too busy;
Too overwhelmed;
Too inexperienced;
Too shy.

So why do we procrastinate? Often because we haven’t aligned with our bigger vision goals and broken them down in actionable steps.

But there is hope and here are my 6 top tips on How to Stop Procrastinating Now

1 – Be Nice.

One of the quickest ways to break out of the procrastination and guilt cycle is to give yourself a break and stop beating yourself up for procrastinating in the first place.

Remember, after you’ve given yourself a good kicking you are still in the same place, so treat and speak to yourself as you would expect others to speak to you.

2 – Bigger Vision Goals.

One of the most common problems I hear from entrepreneurs is the length of their to-do lists, and we all have them.  However the to-do list is the micro tasks, what we need to do is connect with the bigger vision you want.

In person I work with entrepreneurs on an Imagineering process and you can do a brief version of this.  Find a comfortable space, close your eyes and step out to an unspecified time in the future when you are in the future that you desire.

In that future take a look around and answer, what are you doing, who is there, what does your best average day look like, how does it feel to be this successful, and who are you in this future?  Once you’ve explore this, distil this future down into large vision goals.

3 – Chunk Down.

Now that you know the future you are desiring to create, chunk down into goals with specific deadlines.

Remember a goal without a deadline is just a wish.

4 – Set yourself up for success.

Start the night before the next day and detail out what goals you are going to achieve the following day,  and the action steps to achieve them.

5 – Accountability.

This is a game changer for all, from new start ups to 7 figure business owners, we all need to engage an accountability team.

This might be in the form of a personal coach or mentor as I work with my clients, an accountability partner or mastermind programme.

It needs to be at a regular interval and with a team member who isn’t going to buy into your stories, and push you.

6 – Be Brave.

Whether it’s Mark Twain and eating the frog technique, do that which has the most fear attached to it first thing.

This alone with stop procrastinating of that which you want to do and competence breeds confidence, which breeds competence… and the cycle continues.

When procrastination comes up, follow these 6 steps and stop procrastination NOW!
